Blizzard conditions to hit NY area this weekend

I just read an article that said the storm system that's froze the Midwest (still waiting to hear from someone in Oklahoma), is headed for the Northeast and may cause blizzard like conditions this weekend.  We're due to fly out over night on Sunday (eastern time) and I'm a bit concerned the weather can cause a nightmare of a trip for us.  I once got stuck in Chicago for 14 hours and it was a hell of a day that I wouldn't want to repeat.  There isn't a lot to do in an airport for 14 hours.  I'm hoping it won't be as bad as they say and there won't be any big delays.
I feel bad even being concerned about delays when things are so bad for people in the Midwest.  People have died and millions are out of power for what looks like another 10 days.  I can't imagine what we'd do without power for 10 days.  I think we'd have to pack up the cats and leave the area until it got sorted.  What do you do without heat in the middle of an ice storm?  It's really horrible and I guess I shouldn't concern myself with airport delays.
